Beach Hut Heaven

“Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!” So the song goes, and for us Brits there has never been a truer word. Rain or shine, a trip to the beach (for those of us lucky enough to live near the coast) has become part of our school holiday rituals. And what makes the trip even more special is when you can use a beach hut!

These much coveted shelters can fetch up to £250,000 in some parts of the country, which is absolutely crazy isn’t it? But luckily, here in Essex, we have several seaside towns offering a wide range of budget-friendly beach huts to hire for the day/week or buy.

Beach huts are a fantastic base for a day at the seaside, especially if you have family. They are ideal for storing buckets and spades, towels, swimwear and of course the essential picnic. There is something quite charming about a picnic – my children live on picnics in the school holidays, even if we aren’t leaving the house! We are lucky enough to have access to a beach hut in Walton on the Naze, which of course is packed full of lovely RICE picnic-friendly melamine. It’s particularly useful when there are lots of us at the hut as we all know whose cup is whose! And when we’re finished eating, the cups and plates stack neatly on the shelves and add to the colourful charm of the hut.
